Today is Christmas Eve. Lots of paid apps have gone free! However, if you are looking for the newly free popular apps today, you are going to be disappointed. Few newly free apps are popular or useful enough to make our “Great Apps Gone Free” list.

3rd Planet $0.99->Free (App Store) is a fun game that lets you play as a flying saucer zapping innocent pedestrians to smithereens. You have a limited supply of UFO beams to zap at the pedestrians. However, your energy can be recovered by zapping at some of the energy balls floating around in each level. When you have zapped enough innocent pedestrians, you can then continue to next levels for more pedestrian zapping actions.

Why is it Great? There is something about zapping innocent pedestrians as an flying saucer that make this game really awesome.

Urinals: The Game $.99 –> Free (App Store) is a line drawing game that have you direct bathroom patrons to a urinal or toilet and exit them without hitting each other. It is a hilarious take on the flight control gameplay. The voice over is hilarious as well. “Yeah… right there… perfect.” and the bathroom sound effect all make Urinals: The Game a fun game to play.

Why is it Great? I am telling you to go there and pee. Isn’t that great?

Split Expense $1.99 –> Free (App Store) is an useful app that has turned free today. The Christmas holidays are the times where we go on ski trips, plan New Year parties, or other events where the expenses need to be recorded and split evenly among participants. This app will help you do just that. Just keep a record of who everyone’s contributions and the app will calculate everyone’s share of the expenses. Less headache for the person figuring it out.

Why is it Great? Less hassle on the math. Just enjoy your vacation!
