iPhone Apps to Diagnose and Treat Snoring Related Problems

snoring

Snoring can either be a nuisance, or a life-threatening condition called sleep apnea which actually means you stop breathing for a short time and consequently put your heart under undue pressure.  Proper diagnosis by a doctor is critical in determining treatment options.  To that end, along comes an app to assist you and your doctor.  Developed by a Finnish company, Sleep Aid allows you to record your breathing for an entire night, and multiple nights, and then provide graphs and recordings of your sleeping sounds so you can easily determine what sounds you are actually making when you are asleep.  The loudest and most irregular patterns can be picked out and played for your doctor and voila, you may have your answer to many health issues triggered by sleep apnea.

Once you open the app you are given a succinct synopsis of snoring versus sleep apnea.  It is able to record multiple sleep recordings stored in date order.  Beware that some have complained that it will crash after too many recordings are saved.  Your graphs are presented in landscape mode showing the peaks and valleys of the sounds made in your sleep.  Also be aware if you move around alot that may impact the quality of recording.  Remember you will need to sleep alone in order to isolate your particular sounds, much to the chagrin of snugglers.  You can focus on the peaks and listen in.  It gives you two examples to guide your listening:  snoring versus sleep apnea.  Snoring, while irritating, is not life-threatening like sleep apnea can be.  Snoring can be a serious issue in your relationships however, so there is another app called Anti-Snore that will vibrate and attempt to wake you up slightly to allow you to adjust your body to prevent you from snoring.  You will have to wear your iPhone on your arm or leg to feel the vibrations.

anti-snore

Both of these apps seem to be a bargain at $2.99 for the Sleep Aid app (App Store) and $1.99 for the Anti-Snore app (App Store).  After all, what price can be put on your health and your relationships?  If these could make the difference in diagnosing potentially deadly sleep apnea and curing your snoring problem, how could you lose?
