Navigon To Add Live Traffic Data, For a One-Time Fee

Navigon’s iPhone GPS turn-by-turn Navigator has been adding new features through their regular updates. iPod integration, text-to-speech, and even location sharing were added in the last update. Their dedication to make the best iPhone Navigator have even led them to rank top in top grossing iPhone app this month. However, one of the premium features for many GPS navigators, live traffic data, is still lacking in its current version. But not to worry, Navigon’s MobileNavigator will get live traffic data in October.
Navigon’s live traffic data use real time speed collected from 1 million Navigon drivers across North America. Thus, if several vehicles on a road or highway report slow speed to Navigon’s servers, Navigon’s GPS Navigator may provide a new and faster route based on live traffic data. Navigon’s live traffic data also integrate data from traffic cameras and other conventional traffic detection method to provide a more comprehensive live traffic information.
Users can choose to include traffic information when calculation a route. Users will also receive immediate on-screen and voice alerts when the current route experience congestion, traffic, or accidents. MobileNavigator will provide detailed information on the speed of traffic flow as well as severity of incidents involved. Users can then choose to stay on the same route, or take an alternative route to avoid the traffic. The software will also automatically adjust the estimated time of arrival.
The new live traffic feature is not free. Users can add the service directly within the MobileNavigator app via in-app purchase for $24.99. But Navigon will offer an introductory price of $19.99 for its add-on for the first four weeks of its release. Even though this feature is not free, at least after the one-time purchase, users can have the live traffic service available without the monthly fees other providers charge.
