Nuance’s Speech-to-Text Voice Recognition App Hits the iPhone for Free!

Wow! Nuance, the company behind the award winning Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software, has just launched their speech-to-text app, Dragon Dictation. This iPhone app will allow users to translate their spoken words and phrases into text. Users can then use these texts for SMS and emails. What’s more? They are giving it away for a limited time .

It is perfect for "writing" that e-mail when you don’t feel like typing. With the Dragon Dictation app you can send text messages, write e-mails, or just send your text to the clipboard for later pasting. Hey, you can even “write” a blog post with this speech-to-text translation app. This post was first created using Dragon Dictate app. It is then e-mailed to my account for editing.

Dragon Dictation works great most of the time. As with any other speech-to-text software, the dictation may not be perfect. Luckily Dragon Dictation allows quick corrections if unintended words appear. Simply touch the word that is not translated correctly, and new word choices pop up for the user to choose based on phonetics. Multiple words and phrases can also be corrected by holding a word and dragging it to the end of an incorrectly translated phrase. Of course, there are times when speech just doesn’t work. When that happens just tap the keyboard icon and type your words the normal way .
