Flight Control is the New Craze on the iPhone and iPod
Flight Control (iTunes Link), a popular iPhone game to have sold over a million downloads in just a few months, has been the talk on twitter, facebook, and other social media outlets. It has been praised by game reviews and even celebrities like Demi Moore. It is an addictive game that has all your iPhone/iPod buddies trying to beat each other up with their “top scores.” Every week, I see at least a few comments on facebook like, “ If you have time, try beat my score on flight control.” or “ Wow, 254 landings today. Try and beat it.”
So what’s with all the buzz over this game? Fight control is a touch based game where players try to land many planes and helicopters safely by drawing flight paths on the spot. The goal is to land planes safely without causing a crash. This sounds simple, but when you have planes coming from different directions and different speeds, It becomes difficult to draw flight path that won’t cause two planes to meet in the sky and crash. It gets especially tense when there are 10 more more plane queuing for landing. New incoming planes can easily slip by your watchful eyes and cause a crash.
With the release of the new iPhone OS 3.0 , flight control has even gone multiplayer. Now two players ,each with an extra pair of eyes to watch for those deadly crashes, can try to land planes together. Yes, blame your friend for messing up for a change. Multiplayer in flight control is done via bluetooth. Just go to Settings –> General Tab—>Bluetooth and tap to turn the bluetooth function on.
Flight control is another example of successful software company making it big on the iPhone. It is currently still on the top of the paid apps list in the App store, just below its waterway traffic control brethren, Harbor Master. It is probably going to be the first paid app to sell over 2 million downloads. A successful story like Flight Control on the iPhone is sure to keep those apps developers dreaming to make it big on the Apps Store.
Fight Control (iTunes Link) is now available in the App Store for $0.99.
