As the iPhone is becoming a more accepted device for major game companies to publish their titles , major blockbuster games previously reserved only for dedicated gaming devices such as Nintendo DS or PS3 will begin to show up on the iPhone.  We have already seen Super Monkey Ball being a successful title on the iPhone.  With apple also touting their iPhone/iPod as a gaming device, it is only a matter of time before every major game developers begin developing titles for the iPhone.  We are seeing great progress this week as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and DDR are announced by Konami.

A Metal Gear title will certainly be great news for Metal Gear fans.  Courtesy of Konami, we know that Metal Gear for the iPhone will be set in the Metal Gear 4 universe.  It will be consisted of at least 8 stages.  Gamers control their characters via touch pad, moving characters, firing weapons, and even snipering.

SimCity for the iPhone has also been released in the App Store. Initial reviews say that it plays more like Simcity 2 than Simcity 3. Overall it is a very solid incarnation of SimCity, with all the music, sounds, and city planning fun you would expect from a SimCity game. IPhone specific controls include dragging and zooming with the touchscreen controls accustomed to iPhone users. One gripe for SimCity on the iPhone may be panning around the city, as the game re-renders the scene with each drag of the screen. There are other annoyances, but they don’t ruin the city building fun.

Hopefully, the iPhone game communities will get more good days like these when well-developed games from major game companies continue to release excellent games for the iPhone/iPod. Mobile gamers around the world will be happy, and the top guys at Apple will also be smiling as they take profits to the bank.
