App Store Officially hits the Milestone for 100,000 Available Apps
Apple Wednesday officially announced that the App Store has more than 100,000 apps available for download for its iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
This moment has been expected when news of 100,000 approved apps hit last week. But this time, the app count report came from Apple directly.
“The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating.”
It is truly amazing that there are so many apps in an online retail store that doesn’t even exist before July, 2008. Apple has hit the 65,000 apps milestone earlier this July. Thus in just 4 months, the App Store is able to almost double in its size. At this exponential rate of growth, we can only wonder if the App Store can reach 500,000 available apps or even 1 million available apps by the same date next year.
