AT&T Downgrading 2G Service
Got fewer bars or even no signal with your first generation iPhone? OFB reports that AT&T has downgraded to weaker 1900 MHz band in some areas. Some areas such as St. Louis are getting weaker or no signal on their Edge network.
So what’s a 2G user to do? A customer representative advised switching to a 3G device after offering a $200 coupon. Another representative even suggested switching carrier. However officially, AT&T’s executive director of analyst relations, Mark Siegel, denied that AT&T recommended switching to 3G equipment from 2G devices. Mr. Siegel apparently did not offer a solution for those living in affected areas. Buying a new 3G phone or switching carriers may be the only solution indeed.
