iPhone OS 3.1 and iTunes 9 Add Badly Needed App Organization and Genius App Recommendation Functions

Apple’s Rock ‘n Roll iPod event had some major surprises. Aside from having our international super star, Steve Jobs, to kick start the meet, Apple announced that iTunes 9 and the new OS updates for the iPhone and iPod Touch will allow for app organization and Genius technology for app recommendations.

App organization is getting tougher for users each day as they download more and more apps and games. Some users such as myself has 9 pages full of apps. I have already given up on reorganizing my apps, as I only place the apps I use the most on the first 2 screens. Even moving one app from the last screen to the first screen is extremely cumbersome. Needless to say, it is a nightmare to try to organize the entire 9 pages via touchscreen alone. Most people probably have already given up scrolling through screens that are more than 2 screens away from the home screen. Instead, they use the spotlight search function. Now, with app organization via iTunes, we can finally easily reorganize iPhone apps without having to jailbreak.

Speaking of jailbreak, the Dev Team suggests that folks do not upgrade to the new OS yet as it may disable your current jailbreak and possibly future ones.

Applying Genius technology to apps is a frequently requested and a badly needed feature for the App Store. With over 70,000 apps in the store, it is kind of hard to find the app that fits your every life. That app that you need may be buried at the bottom corner of the App Store. With Genius doing the searching for you based on your past download history, you can finally open the window to more apps that actually matters most to you. It will also be a fun experience to see what apps the Genius thinks you are into. You may just be surprised at what it brings.

It is without doubt that Apple is finally delivering solutions to its criticisms in its App Store apps presentation and app organization. Apple is listening to its customers, and will likely be selling more apps as a result of its spirit of achieving high customer satisfaction.
