Malicious iPhone Malware Can Now Do Real Damage and Steal Your Personal Data
Just this week, a malicious program, known as the ikee worm, has been discovered to change the wallpaper of susceptible jailbroken iPhones. But it seems that a new variant of this iPhone worm is out to do some real damage. Computer security firm Intego has identified the first malicious code that uses the same vulnerability as the ikee worm. It targets jailbroken iPhones with default root passwords. Intego names this malware as iPhone/Privacy.A.
The malware allows a hacker to break into a jailbroken iPhone without being noticed, quietly stealing any user data such as e-mail, contacts, SMSs, calendars, photos, music files, videos, and any other data in an iPhone app.
Because the malware uses the same vulnerability as the ikee worm, the solution to block this malware from infecting your jailbroken iPhone is the same. Changing the SSH password will prevent iPhone/Privacy.A worm from stealing your personal data. Thus, if you have jailbroken your iPhone but still haven’t changed your SSH default password, you better act fast.
