Rumor: $99 iPhone 3GS in Time for the Holiday Season

iphone-3gs-box

Boy Genius Report claims two separate sources informed them that AT&T is looking to sell $99 iPhone 3GS before Christmas.

However, this is still just a rumor at best. Even though it is a good attempt to battle the new Android 2.0 smart phones for greater market share, it would mean that it has to discontinue the 3G models and start another manufacturing process for the 8 Gig iPhone 3GS. That doesn’t sound too likely since we are just one and half month away from Christmas.

But lowering the price of iPhone 3GS does has its benefits. When the iPhone price was officially lowered to $99 in July. Many of my friends got excited. Some of those who believe cell phones should come free with a new contract started to consider purchasing the new iPhone.

But when they asked about the new iPhone in the retail store, they found out they couldn’t get the new 3GS iPhones with better graphic processors with $99 price tag. Buying an old model seems kind of lame even to these price sensitive techies, so they didn’t purchase either the iPhone 3G or 3GS.

Now, with rumors of an 8 gig iPhone 3GS lowered to $99, those folks may finally get to buy the newest iPhone model at their desired price. After all there are many features such as augmented reality, 2-way speech language translation, and better 3D graphics that set the two models apart.

Hopefully, these rumors can be confirmed so more people can enjoy the additional features of iPhone 3GS without paying the higher price. Is the higher price of an iPhone 3GS keeping anyone you know from buying it?
