There’s Hope for Flash Support on the iPhone
It just seems each and every day that Apple is closing in on becoming what Microsoft was. A bunch of control freaks hellbent on world domination. From scatter-shot app approval protocols to the banning of other browsers, limiting the amount of computers I can link my iPhone to, archaic censorship, and not allowing companies whom they have always enjoyed a strong relationship with like Adobe access to their SDK license terms that would allow run-time interpreted codes. Until this is lifted, no Flash.
While it truly does look like onus and crux of the difficulties between Adobe, whom have already developed Flash for the iPhone, can be blamed on Apple the message on the right from Adobe’s site is a little passive aggressive. It is reminiscent of what Jorge Luis Borges said of the Falkland Islands War, or Malvinas for my Argentine friends, “It’s like watching two bald men fighting over a comb”.
Enter Tobias Schneider, while the big two battle over this one and seem to get further from an accord, Tobias is moving forward with Gordon. Gordon is an open source Flash™ runtime written in pure JavaScript that will allow web sites to integrate this engine and turn Flash™ animations into something viewable on the iPhone.
Well done sir. Now Gordon is still in it’s infancy, in fact it is still in the maternity or, rather, in Mr. Schneider’s case paternity ward. It is less than two days old but is already showing signs of maturity. Direct your iPhone or iPod Touch’s browser here to check it out.
