Verizon iPhone To Be Announced Next Week?

verizon-iphone1It is difficult to believe that Apple would over shadow the unveiling of their tablet computer with another announcement as radical as ending AT&T’s exclusive carrier contract in the US next week but many industry analysts believe it to be an inevitability.

Especially Peter Misek, analyst for Canaccord Adams who wrote in a note to clients that, “We believe there is a good chance that the ‘One more thing…’ part of next week’s presentation may include two iPhone-related announcements: namely, the release of iPhone OS 4.0 and the unveiling of iPhone 4G coming to Verizon in June.”

Most of his speculation seems to be based on the gearing up of many Asian factories for ramped up production beginning in March of this year. This 4th generation iPhone announcement while imminent in Mr. Misek’s eyes, seems ill timed to others, myself included.

The last two phones Apple released (3G and 3GS) were unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference held in June of 2008 and June of 2009. Both exceeded sales expectations. Could no one at Apple have heard the expression, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. Mind you AT&T’s network is broke, and this would certainly go a long ways towards fixing it.

Certainly Apple has nothing to lose by offering additional service providers, it´s simply a matter of timing. Again, most expect the long awaited, iPad or iSlate, or iLeprechaun to be shown to the world, will Apple blow its wad with an additional announcement only for people to have to wait 5 months?

Additionally, Verizon will not be running the much anticipated 4G LTE network until next year; it seems odd that Apple would roll out a new product for a network that will be antiquated within a year´s time.

Certainly, it could happen but I will go on record saying I doubt this announcement will take place this week.
